Welcome Delaney to Sweet Water!
Are you originally from Wisconsin?
Yes! I grew up in Brookfield, just west of Milwaukee
How did you learn about Sweet Water?
I learned about Sweet Water while I was searching for AmeriCorps opportunities in Southeastern Wisconsin. Being from the Milwaukee area, their mission immediately resonated with me and I knew I wanted to complete my service with them.
Can you describe your professional background?
I graduated with a Bachelors of Science in Biology with a focus in Ecology, Evolution, and Conservation from Coastal Carolina University in South Carolina. While at CCU I spent a year working with Dr. Chris Hill and the Loggerhead Shrike Lab and presented my research at the university’s Undergraduate Research Symposium. This experience helped foster my passion for conservation ecology!
Where did your interest in water come from?
Having grown up surrounded by lakes and rivers in Southeastern Wisconsin, freshwater has always been a dominant force in my life. From fishing in northern Wisconsin to wake surfing in lake country, I’ve always loved spending time in and around freshwater. My goal is to inspire others to care about the conservation of freshwater systems.
What do you do when you aren’t at work?
Two of my favorite things to do are reading and spending time with friends. When I’m not at work you will most likely find me curled up in bed with a book or out on a new adventure with my friends!
